Hello, I'm Nanami, an old schoolmate of Getou's. I wasn't sure if he has spoken of me to you or not, but I know you recently signed a contract with him. I wanted to thank you for saving him from spending any longer in jail than he already had.
[ Who's this stranger suddenly reaching out to her out of the blue?? Bernie frets for a few moments (or, half a day), contemplates finding Geto to ask him what this was all about, or looking for Hubert for advice (no, he'd probably try to kill him) -- but ultimately, well... The message was harmless, wasn't it? It seemed alright. ]
Hi. I'm Bernadetta, but I guess you already knew that.
He was nice to me when he didn't need to be. I think it's worked out okay? I don't think jail is a pleasant place to be when he didn't do anything wrong.
What I mean is, I don't think you have to thank me for anything! It works out well for me too. He's letting me stay in his place too. If anything I should be thanking him.
[ It's none of his business how much about Getou's past she knows, so he won't divulge anything about it, though he has a laugh to himself at the idea of Getou not doing anything wrong. ]
I'm glad to hear it is going well. I had hoped he would introduce us the last time I was over, but he never did and I didn't see or hear a peep from you.
It is my preference! Too many people make me nervous. He's been very gracious about telling me if he would like to have guests. Sometimes I can just stay in there, or sometimes I go out so I don't have to bother you all by being around.
Bernadetta, have you heard from Hubert as of late? He did not come home last night, nor the night before, and he will not respond to any of my messages or calls inquiring about his whereabouts. I am growing quite worried...
[ Then again, this wouldn't be the first time this happened to the two of them. He'd vanished on Hubert before, after all. Why shouldn't he fear the same might be happening to Hubert, or that something else has befallen him in the city while strange things are happening? As for Bernadetta, he doesn't live with her, and she tends to make herself scarce more often than most, so it's less obvious to him right now that she's kind of gone missing in a way as well... ]
[ Bernie actually responds to this, even if she's nowhere to be seen in the provided housing, having stolen off to hide somewhere remote. But... if Ferdinand was wondering where Hubert of all people was, then.. maybe something was wrong? ]
Ferdinand! I haven't heard from him. I was going to just ask him now where he is, but the device won't let me search up his name? Is something wrong, do you think?
When Annette suddenly left it was a little like this. She just disappeared and I couldn't find her anywhere or send her any messages this way because her name was just gone.
[ It will be a while. But she makes it eventually, a canvas tote in hand with her smartly-dressed Hubert bear peeking out from inside. She knocks at the door; she's been here before, very briefly, so there's not urge to run and hide while she waits for Ferdinand to come and invite her in. ]
We can work on that :) Lace is too delicate for most to make from scratch, that's an artisan's work. But I can get us some lace for our stock and we can practice making some nightgowns. How's that sound?
My store sells what I want to sell. I do make undergarments for men, and I have got a few Ladies in my books who might be interested in these sorts of things as well.
It has come to my attention that Lt. Jopson has left the city and has left the Midshipman's Needle to my sister, Daphne. I should like to keep it running, and Lt. Jopson specifically asked that you be provided for through its earnings. I, however, can scarcely reaffix a lost button. Accordingly, I should like to speak with you about your thoughts for how best to continue the business, should you be interested in continuing the work.
[ it takes an hour or two and maybe a tearful, panicked message to Dorothea before she can figure out how to respond to this. It's not like she can just brush this off with a thank you but no, can she? This guy was a titled noble. Ugh!! This is the worst. Letter writing is fun, but only when it's to friends.
She can handle writing things, though! It's a lot easier than meeting in person... ]
Dear Lord Bridgerton,
Thank you for writing! I heard about Lieutenant Jopson on the network from his friend, who also told me that the shop would be left to your sister. I've not met her, so I wasn't sure how to bring it up.
I think it would be nice if she'd like to keep it open. She doesn't have to, if she doesn't want to. (Or I suppose, if you did not want to?) But if you/she really do want to keep it open, I'd be happy to help with keeping it running.
I mostly do embroidery and repairs since I can't make or design a whole suit with all the parts all by myself, though. Mr Jopson said he was going to help me learn. If he left anything I think I could probably still figure it out, but it might take a while!
I'm sorry! I hope that's okay. I understand if it isn't. Please let me know if it isn't!
[ And please don't tell her they still have to meet and talk in person. This... is probably enough?? ]
[ oh she got his title right this is like a Real Letter he likes her already!! ]
Miss von Varley,
I believe it is in everyone's best interest to keep the shop open, though I do admit that is a bit selfish of me as it is the only place I presently get suits from. It will not be the same without Lt. Jopson, of course, and if we need to find another employee we should start that search before long.
That said, it is not my intention to put any pressure on you. Should you like to continue with it? I simply assumed you would be interested in continuing or perhaps taking a more active role, though I should perhaps have not jumped so quickly to conclusions. I merely wish to respect Lt. Jopson's wishes, and see that we all profit accordingly.
You should certainly meet my sister, sometime. She is quite skilled in embroidery as well although I do not think it her passion. Perhaps we could all meet for tea and have our discussions then?
[ :) you know, in person, ]
Sincerely, Anthony Bridgerton

[ meanwhile he can pry her would-be title from her cold, dead hands. It's fine. ]
Dear Lord Bridgerton,
To be really honest, I don't think it really matters if I'd like to continue it or not; not when I have to wear this black collar all the time. But I'd certainly like to continue with it; needlework and embroidery are some of the only things that I'm really good at, and actually like to do. So it was nice to work in Mr Jopson's shop for the time that he had me.
I'm not very good at meeting people. I probably shouldn't say so, but I mess up a lot when I have to meet with someone. But I'm okay with tea time! [ can they score a perfect tea time though, is the question... ]
If you're going to bring your sister to tea, perhaps I could also bring a friend?
I respectfully disagree. I think your opinion matters a great deal, as you have the closest connection to the shop of any of us, and, ultimately, what you do with your time here is an important question. Ladies here have many more opportunities than they did in my time.
(I am certain my mother would be shocked at the idea that I would encourage a lady to work, but I digress.)
If you enjoy the work, I think the best thing for us would be to find a way to facilitate that.
Tea sounds lovely, and of course you are welcome to bring whoever you wish. Sometime this week, perhaps?
[It's Bernadetta's turn to receive something delivered to her house! Inside of the small box is a carefully packaged strawberry chiffon cake decorated with fresh strawberries on top, and alongside it there is a lumpy envelope addressed to her. When opened, out comes a folded message penned in his graceful handwriting, and the bulge had been created by a small glass pendant rimmed in gold, a pressed pansy of violet and yellow encased inside.]
Happy Birthday, Bernadetta!
I hope that you enjoy this little cake. I made it myself! It is not as pretty as my vision for it was, but at the very least I ensured that the cake itself was much more than just palatable. It would be even better with your favorite tea, and if you are amenable to it now, I would also like to offer my presence in honor of your special day!
However, I know how you are, and I will not force it. You are free to revel in your solitude if that is a happier way to spend it. That said, I cannot in good conscience leave you to remain shut away in perpetuity! I long to spend time with you, as does Dorothea and Hubert. Perhaps someday, we could even have you over for the night. All of us together... I think that would be wonderful.
The flower has a bit of a story. I chanced upon these pretty pansies in a garden one day, and looking at its quiet, delicate beauty made me think of you. One of them had been severed from its companions, and it made me a little bit sentimental, so I took it with me. I had pressed it some time ago to preserve it, and it became something of a bookmark the way I would leave it tucked between pages to save my spot. But now, I want to give it to you as a reminder that I am often thinking of you, even when we are apart. You can turn it into something you wear, or keep it as a trinket, or anything you would like.
Writing this reminds me of how one would send messages back home, so it feels quite nostalgic and even enjoyable for me to do. Do not be surprised if I find another convenient excuse to do so again.

Well, I told him I could stay really quiet so I wouldn't bother any of his guests. And he didn't need to introduce me to anyone.
Please don't get mad at him! I asked him to let me stay in the room so I wouldn't have to meet anyone, so it's my fault.

If that's your preference, then I am glad to see he's honoring it.

I'm sorry for not introducing myself sooner.

Do you suppose he is no longer here? I hate to think that something terrible happened to him... Currently, I am asking around to look for some leads.

Maybe. That might be.
I mean.

Aren't those lovely? Did you make them yourself, or buy them somewhere?
no subject
I just saw them in a store.
They look really hard to make, I'm used to patching up leather and armor and cotton...
Lace is too delicate for me (◞‸◟;)
